SCI+TEC welcome David Sidley and Duncan Murray aka. WHYT NOYZ to the family. Formed in 2010 the duo have quickly impressed with their driving techno productions that match live drums and innovative vocal samples. Having caught the ear of Richie Hawtin with their early demos,WHYT NOYZ were soon featuring on his Minus12 imprint and their track ‘Volcano’ was included on Hawtin’s ‘New Horizons’ compilation. An invitation from Dubfire to produce an EP for SCI+TEC saw the boys hard at work at the tail end of 2012. The result is the rampant double-header of ‘Homewurk’ and ‘Jack Tha Box’. Throughly tried and tested by the label boss, both tracks are now certified SCI+TEC hits and ready for release. With their own blog now live (noyzaudio.com), an upcoming ep release with Octopus Recordings and the impending launch of their own label, NOYZ, 2013 is set to be a groundbreaking year for the duo and its all starts right here.

It has been rapid rise for Italian brothers Fabrizio & Matteo Floris. Producing as Mr. Bizz the duo’s early releases for Frisbee Tracks and Muticolor Recording found good support, however it was their 2009 production ‘Eternity’ that really put them on map. Signed to Cocoon, it featured on the Ten Years Of Cocoon compilation mixed by Dubfire and Loco Dice and was a highlight of that summer season. Into 2010 and Mr. Bizz were in full flow, signing releases to Tuning Spork and Resopal Schallware and turning their remix talents on Hakan Lidbo. Since then its been a flurry of releases. Ep’s for Octopus Recordings, Deeperfect and Material Series and remixes for the likes of Mauro Picotto, Hermanez, Pig&Dan, Stefano Noferini and Yello. The heavy beat patterns and sinister vocals have defined Mr. Bizz’s original style and are to the fore here again on their SCI+TEC debut, ‘Reversion EP’.

Following in the footsteps of fellow Canadian’s Carlo Lio and The Junkies, Justin James becomes the newest member of SCI+TEC’s global family. Growing up just across the water from the rich musical heritage of Detroit and hailing from the same city as techno hero Richie Hawtin, has all served to influence and motivate the ambitious young producer from Windsor, Ontario. Having shared the booth and warmed the floors for the worlds finest at his Boom Boom Room residency in Windsor, Justin, through the reach of his own music, is now spreading his sound far and wide. Having kicked of 2012 with a release on Hawtin’s Minus12 off shoot, Justin now launches his 2013 campaign with his debut for SCI+TEC. His three track “Shallow Dreamer” ep opens with the Eastern horns and hypnotic drip of the title track, backed by “City Club”, a track that has recently featured on Dubfire’s “A Transmission” mix compilation. Finally “Split Tongue” closes the ep with its popping groove and vocal gymnastics.

Ron Costa has found a fitting home for his techno focused productions in SCI+TEC, and his forthcoming ‘Berlidof / Oslo Museum’ EP is proof that the cogs of this particular musical union of minds are well oiled. As always, Ron Costa’s obsession with the groove shines through, and while these are two very different tracks, it is perhaps their distinctive nod to the club crowd that had label boss Dubfire drawn to the talented French artist’s work. On ‘Berlidof’, Costa lets the skillfully carved, bouyant bassline carry the groove, while a dark and twisted vocal draws listeners towards the break. ‘Oslo Museum’ focuses on low end distortion to drive the track, while ominous hisses and purposeful percussive lines take the production from stark minimalism to full on dance floor surrender. After supporting and playing Costa’s work for a number of years, Dubfire is clearly well seasoned in the impressive subtleties of the rising producer’s music and he’s certainly selected an accomplished two-tracker to mark the artist’s inauguration to SCI+TEC.

July saw the release of Harvard Bass’ sensational „Plex“ on Teenage Riot Records, the label of Jesse Keeler (JFK, MSTRKRFT). Armed with its huge bassline and a dazzling array of drums, the original from the Southern Cali wonder kid was a huge favourite with many, including SCI+TEC’s boss, Dubfire. “I’ve been a friend of Teenage Riot boss Jesse for a while now having followed his band, Death From Above 1979, closely. We regularly send each other tracks and whilst when I first heard „PlexA it wasn’t a track that would fit my DJ sets, I felt compelled to play around with the master because there was just something about the track that had me hooked” says Dubfire. Having initially tinkered and re-edited the original, it wasn’t long before he’d crafted a whole new rework. With Keeler and Harvard Bass fully onboard a plan was hatched to release the new Dubfire version and extend both artists reach to a wider audience. So here we go, get ready, it’s time to Plex!

The “Change Of Appearance” ep is somewhat contradictory in its name as Electric Rescue turns out another brace of impressive trademark techno. Each of the tracks open on a deeper trajectory but Electric Rescue soon ups the anti as lead cut “Change” rolls out the drums and pierces the atmospherics with its synth stab riff and vocal drop outs, before “Certaines Apparences” raises the game yet further with its crescendo topping moments that fall not once, not twice, but three times.

As we officially bring the summer season to a close, SCI+TEC welcome a return to our Bosnian brother, Sinisa Tamamovic. “Waking Up”, his 2011 label debut was a huge success, sitting firm in the Top 5 of many key download charts. Sinisa’s penchant of dirty organic drum sounds, clean rhythms and crisp percussion has seen him blossom with releases for 1605, Night Light Records, Mindshake, Yoshitoshi, Excentric and of course SCI+TEC. The “Wind” ep is a one-two punch to the senses. The title track with its mighty funk-fuelled bassline and filtered drops is a perfect party starter. A moment of mystery and tension is created by its whispered vocal in the breakdown, only to be quashed as the sub-thumping bassline stomps back in. On the flip Sinisa delivers a soundtrack of robotic sickness with the off-kilter percussive elements, relaxed BPM and cavanous atmosphere of “Broken Machine.” Great EP, which has been a staple in Dubfire’s sets all summer long!
